The Review Nobody Runs

For most organisations, the moment guest services gets properly scrutinised is the tender. Every promise interrogated, every detail weighed, senior leadership in the room asking sharp questions. Then the contract goes live, and the scrutiny quietly stops.

Three years pass. Sometimes five. The workplace underneath that contract has changed, sometime beyond recognition. Occupancy patterns have shifted, peak days might have moved, expectations around experience have risen, and the pressure to prove value has grown right alongside them. But the service itself often hasn't moved at all. It's been trimmed here and there, but never properly redesigned.

We see this constantly. A specification written for a very different working world, quietly carried forward year after year because nobody's had the reason, or the time, to challenge it.

A review isn't about disruption, and it certainly isn't about putting anyone on notice. It's a simple, honest check on whether the model still fits the workplace you actually have now, rather than the one you had when the contract was signed. Is the resourcing matched to real occupancy, not historic assumptions? Is the technology still earning its place, or has it quietly become another manual process in disguise? Does the service reflect how people work today, or how they worked five years ago?

In our experience, the answers are rarely dramatic. Most of the value in a review like this sits in small, smart adjustments rather than a full rebuild. But those adjustments only happen if someone's willing to ask the questions in the first place.

If your specification hasn't had a proper look in a couple of years, that's usually the moment something has quietly drifted. We'd rather find that out through a conversation than a complaint.
